Library is closing (temporarily)

For those that don't know I thought I should tell you that the library will be closing in a couple of weeks (all books need to be returned by Friday 28th Aug), to become Room 19 for the 5year olds joining our school. Work should hopefully start on constructing the new library very soon. While the library is closed I will be doing catch up administration tasks for the library and teachers resource room and helping out in the office area. When I manage to get all those jobs done I may end up helping out in the classrooms.
...so you will still see me around - I have no intention of leaving!

It's unlikely that there will be too many blogs from me now until the start of the 2010 school year - when we should be up and running in our gorgeous new libray space. How exciting!

Thank you for the comments

Hey- thanks so much for the comments on the blog. Apologies for delay on acknowledging them - Mr Gemmill has now shown me how to read them....I did mention in my first blog that I was 'new to this game' didn't I?! It's great to get the feedback and suggestions - I welcome them with pleasure!

Leanne:)

Thank you to Rooms 10 & 11

Room 11 took up a suggestion to make individual 'paddles' for their library usage a couple of weeks ago. Room 10 saw them and have done the same (in the shape of feet!)

How they work is: each one has your library barcode, your photo and then whatever artwork you want to decorate them with before being laminated. Then when you want to issue or reserve a book all you have to do is bring it out to be scanned. So much easier and quicker than the big green folder with the barcodes of the whole school. They have also become a great way to reflect YOU as an individual......they are seriously groovy! Check out some of the ones Rooms 10 & 11 have made and if you are interested, talk to your teacher. All you need from me is your Library barcode - the rest is up to you. I am happy to laminate them, to save you a bit of time.

Nine days of Term 2 left!!

Hi there - I guess you are planning stuff for the holidays already. Some of you will be off to the snow, some may be off to warmer places and some will be catching up on friends and family at home. I hope to fit all 3 in (Skiing, Hanmer Pools and cruising at home). Whatever you do make sure you have a good book or 2 to keep you company :)

New this week...

We've got 4 of these "Clever Clogs" joining our library soon. (Mind Boogling Science; Mighty Machines; Ghosts & Monsters; Spies & Detectives). They are jam packed with facts, diagrams, photos, quizzes and much more. All will be in the non-fiction area. Just ask me if you are after a specific one and I will point you to the right area.

"The Life of Anne Frank" - yes it's another book about this courageous young woman. This book though would have to be the best I have seen yet. Lots and lots of photos. Easy to pick up and read just a few pages at a time. Because of the content and some of the pictures, this book is restricted to Year 6 children only. If you have concerns about whether this book is for you, please talk to me. Those that have skimmed it at my desk so far are very impressed.

"Clementine" - There are 3 books in this series so far...and we have them all! Those of you that enjoy Judy Blume or Judy Moody books will love this new character. Clementine seems to be constantly in trouble...

Ok, that's all from me this week. Keep warm

Hi there

The term is racing on by - can't believe we are over halfway through the year already! We are still buying books for the library, so please let me know if there are books that you think would be good to be in our library. I get lots of catalogues sent to me, but I love it most when I get recommendations from YOU!

This week let me show you some of the new stuff coming through...

I love this book! Lots of fun, crazy and some completely sane stuff to do "before you're old and boring". Not sure what age that happens at???

You'll find it in the non fiction area at 646.7...but be quick as I have a feeling this book is going to be very popular!

I've just bought 5 of the books in this series. They have about 75 pages each and there are sketches throughout the book to help make the story come alive.

The blurb on the back cover reads "Jamie and Tom are back in dinosaur world and discover a baby Ankylosaurus who's stuck in the mud. The boys have to save the little dinosaur before it's sucked under completely - but how? And what will happen when its mother returns and starts thrashing her giant clubbed tail around?"

This is currently on display and has some very awesome things to create. I have made the paper pots with my girls - messy fun and oh so cool once finished. This book could be perfect for filling in the days during the holidays coming up very soon.

This too is on display at the moment and is a reminder that ski season is upon us!

Get all the tips, read about what the pros get up to and be inspired!

Thanks to Mr Gemmill for kick starting me on the blog!

Brrrr - it's chilly....perfect time for reading!

Winter has arrived! So, too, have some awesome new books turned up in the library. Check out below for a hint at what lies in store for YOU!

"Redwall - the graphic novel" By Brian Jacques
Yes - it's out in graphic novel format. Really makes the
story come alive!

"Toad Surprise" By Morris Gleitzman
Only published last year and follows on from all those other toad favourites written previously by this very funny author.
The blurb on the back of the book reads as ...A wart-tingling escapade of one slightly squashed cane toad's hunt for friendship and the suprising place he finds it.

"Zac's Wild Mission" - By H.I.Larry
Another ZAC POWER joins our collection - but this one is part of a new series called 'Test Drive' and will be located in the ORANGE SPOT area. I have several of these to process but this is the first one completed. Let me know what you think

"My Village - Rhymes from around the world" By Danielle Wright
A stunning little book that allows us a look at some of the favourite rhymes shared around the world. The illustrations are bright and fun.

Hope you are keeping warm. I can totally recommend snuggling up with a book and milo to help!
